President: Dave Merschman

Dave has been involved with MFM since 2002, serving as treasurer from 2004 to 2008 and president since 2008. Dave achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Simpson College in 1979  and manages  a local business.  During his 9 trips to Mali, his main areas of  involvement have been clean water and microfinance.

Vice-President: Jill E. DeVore, MS, MPH

Jill  has been involved with Medicine for Mali from its inception in 2000.  She is a retired teacher and serves as head of the Public Health and Education branches.

Board Secretary: D. Suzanne Johnson, CMA(AAMA)

Suzanne currently works for Des Moines University in Podiatry. During her many trips to Mali, starting in 2002,  she has worked in the medical clinic and served as the clinic director.

Treasurer: Jason Chance, CPA

Jason is a local businessman and has been on 2 trips to Mali serving on the construction crew.

Legal Counsel: Mike Cunningham, Attorney

Mike has served on the board since 2009.

Elise DeVore Berlan, MD, MPH

Dr. Berlan was a founding member of Medicine For Mali in 2000.  Dr. Berlan is an Assistant Professor of ClinicalPediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Attending Physicianin the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
She has completed four trips to Mali and has been on the Board of Directors since 2009. She provides expertise in public health programming and medicine.

David Block, AIA

David an architect and expert on passive solar design and sustainable construction techniques has recently retired as a Professor at Iowa State University.  He is passionate about serving the people of this region.
